A toxic relationship

Last week I was in awe of a vine that had beautifully climbed up our chive plant.

I raved about how stunning and clever plants are, until I realised that it was actually bindweed—a type of trumpet-f

lower that twines around plants, smothering them and taking their resources in the process.

For me, it was a reminder that however evolved we are as humans, and we still share so many basic instincts with the flora and fauna around us. The need to survive and thrive. Considering all that's going on in the world at the moment, I realised that as smart as humans have become, we are still part of the natural world, we're not above it.

Anyway, I went to remove the weed carefully from the root, but it had smothered the chive so much, it took it's head with it.

I did read that the trumpet-flowers are great pollinators, so maybe there's a more sustainable way of growing them? Let's see.
